The Mission of the Department of Engineering

 

The Mission of the Department of Engineering is to provide an overall high quality, application-oriented curriculum in engineering and engineering technology. These curricula are designed to prepare students for careers as engineers and engineering technologist who have the ability to understand new developments, adapt to change, embrace professional development opportunities, and assume professional roles in their respective fields.

New Engineering Programs



 

In a bold move to solidify Texas Southern University as a leader and top producer of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) graduates, the College of Science and Technology (COST) has been authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to begin offering Bachelor's degree programs in Civil Engineering in the spring of 2015 and in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the fall of 2015.

As a result of the addition of the two new programs, the department has changed its name from the Department of Engineering Technology to the Department of Engineering. These changes will be reflected in the department's web site soon.

2017 TSU Unite Pre-college Engineering Summer Program


The Department of Engineering of Texas Southern University , in collaboration with the Army funded UNITE program, will be hosting its 11th Annual Pre-College Engineering Summer Program. The program encourages and helps prepare students to pursue a college education in engineering and related fields, as part of a national initiative to develop a talented and trained STEM workforce.

Application is FREE.Application forms are also available online at here.

Date: June 26th, 2017 - July 20th, 2017
Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Stipend: $400 (Full Attendance Required)
Location: Texas Southern University Main Campus
Application Deadline: May 30th, 2017
OPEN TO RISING 9TH THROUGH RISING 12TH GRADE STUDENTS
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completed application.
  • A 300 word essay describing career goals and benefits from participating in this program.
  • Most recent academic transcript
  • Most recent standardized test scores
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • One letter of recommendation from Instructor or School Counselor.

    UNITE is a pre-collegiate summer program for talented high school students from groups historically underrepresented and underserved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
